Pricing Change – Essential Organic Tomato Range

As the years pass we are experiencing an increase in extreme and problematic weather conditions. This year has been no different. The effects of climate change are becoming difficult to ignore and, in the UK this year, we experienced one of the hottest summers on record.

Unfortunately, this means that food harvesting can be largely affected by these adverse changes in our climate. Italy also had extremely high temperatures this year and this in turn has affected the tomato harvest. Essential have been informed by our farmers that due to the hotter weather, they have had to harvest tomatoes earlier this year due to early ripening of tomatoes. The poor harvest has been mostly due to the drought whilst the fruit should have been swelling & ripening – most likely linked to climate change

It is not only the climate that is affecting food supplies around Europe and the rest of the world. The current geopolitical climate is very uncertain as the war between Ukraine and Russia continues. This has led to an exponential increase in the cost of raw materials, packaging, and energy pricing.

At Essential, we work hard to ensure that our product pricing is both fair to our consumers and the farmers that supply us. Unfortunately, these issues have led to price increases to our popular organic tomato range. Essential maintain a strong and productive relationship with small farm co-operatives in the Marche region of Italy. This means we will continue to support these co-operatives during hard times and work together to minimise any further changes to our pricing.

The price rise of Essential Organic Passata, Tinned Organic Chopped Tomatoes, Organic Tinned Peeled Tomatoes, Organic Tinned Cherry Tomatoes and Organic Tomato Concentrate will be effective from November 2022.
